About my work
My work is a visual record of various aspects, both formal and substantive, concerning the phenomenon of time. This record is achieved through a radical deconstruction, fragmentation or amalgamation of different configurations that emerged from an analytical approach to certain expressions of nature or human culture and music. The method used results in compositions that consist of a full-stack of horizontal rows which are divided into smaller rectangles in which a wealth of detail can be discerned. Despite the sometimes monumental, encyclopaedic imagery and the exuberance of form and meaning layers, my work has an introverted character. My art raises two ways of perceiving. Firstly that of an overall impression that can bring the viewer in a contemplative mood. The other way is looking closely, focusing on the details.
Therefore my larger paintings come to full advantage in spaces such as lobbies, reception halls and churches as they engage with their environment whereas the possibility of an interaction on a more personal level remains.
